Update 5/2 4:20pm

Gary called, and it sounds like Dylan needs our prayers now. The doctors wanted to run the dialysis machine today, but they weren't able to because Dylan's blood pressure has dropped too low. It's important that they perform the dialysis to remove the excess fluid from his body. Dylan now weighs 185 lbs, much of which is fluid weight. Fortunately, the fluid seems to be largely concentrated in his lower body now, rather than in his lungs as before, but we need to pray that his blood pressure will rise so that dialysis will be possible to remove this fluid before it accumulates around his lungs. According to Gary, the fluid is building up at a moderate pace, so it will be important that Dylan receive dialysis tomorrow, since today will not be possible.

Gary and Debbie also received the results from a biopsy of Dylan's colon, which showed Graft vs. Host Disease (GVHD) in his colon. The disease is a complication often found in bone marrow transplant patients and can last up to 5 years following a transplant. Doctors hope to be able to treat it with medication only, but there is some concern how Dylan's liver will be able to handle the medication. Please pray for the medication to be effective and well-received by his liver.

The Shugarts could really use our prayers right now. Let's pray that God would give Gary and Debbie the strength to face another setback and to continue caring for Dylan and representing Christ so well at the hospital. Let's pray that their faith in the Lord would be strong and that as they commit their concerns to Him, they would experience His peace that passes all understanding to guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Gary expressed today how grateful he was for all of the comments you have left on the blog. He and Debbie read them every night before they go to bed, and using their laptop at the hospital, they even read them to Dylan by his bedside. Although Dylan isn't often able to respond, there's a likelihood that he's able to understand very much of what Gary and Debbie are saying to him. I think it would be especially appropriate if we left Dylan words of encouragement today.

Kyle

Dylan,

Hang in there, buddy! Sarah and I have been praying for you. We have been praying that you would continue to trust only in Christ as you continue to fight. In Christ there is never any reason to fear, no reason to worry, but always reason to rejoice. Why? Because Christ will never ever leave us and he will never forsake us. He is always good. Thank you for being such a servant for as long as we have known you! Sarah and I haven't had an opportunity to write thank you cards for all who had a part in our wedding, but that day would not have happened apart from your humble service to us. I hope to be able to return the favor to you some day. I pray that God would give you comfort as you remain in the hospital. Anyway,we all love you and you've got folks all around the world praying for you!

- Aaron and Sarah

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength,a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.

Dear Lord Jesus, I just come before you now lifting up my friend Dylan and my friends Gary and Debbie. Father I pray that you reach into Dylans body and heal him. Lord you are all knowing and the great physician and you know what this family needs. We love you and praise you even in our hardships and I know that has been expressed through this family. Lord wrap your arms around them and comfort them with your grace and compassion. We love you with all of our might! Amen

Dear Gary, Debbie & Dylan,

Just remember LAMININ!!!! The cell adhesive molecule that holds the entire body together and its molecular shape is the Cross! God has perfectly created Dylan and He is holding onto him!

More important than Laminin is JESUS! We know...

Col.1:16,17,19 "All things were created by Him and for him. He is before all things and in Him all things hold together. For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Jesus and through Jesus to reconcile to Himself all things by making peace through His shed blood on the Cross."

Hold on tightly to JESUS!!!! He is holding onto all of you....He promises in His Word! We love you and are praying for you. Your "Yankee" Family xoxoxoxoxo

Dylan, Debbie, and Gary,

I love you guys. It's been a blessing getting to know you these past few months at OMV. My heart is filled with joy as I think about our Father and his care for us. The fact that he has rescued us from the darkness we were once in brings such thankfulness and praise that he alone deserves.
Please know that I'm praying for you Dylan. It's my privilege to lift your name before our Father. He loves and cares for you so much. It's a precious thought to consider that the One who has created all things and sustains all things, loves you. What a marvelous inheritance we have in being a part of His family.
Gary and Debbie, I know that Dylan is so proud that your his mom and dad. Your love and comfort is so valuable to him. I love you guys.
